One of the prime objectives of Six Sigma Plus is to drive the defect level to less than 3.4 ppm.

Reasoning becomes apparent when one considers the exponential cost of a failure as product or service gets closer and closer to the paying customer.

Defects or failures that occur early in the process and that are not found, generally propagate through the entire development process. 

Each step provides the opportunity to generated additional defects. Not addressing the issues early in the process can become very expensive.
